Actions to take for CCAC Account
Evidence of a compromised account includes logins from unfamiliar devices, unexpected account lockouts, and suspicious emails being sent from your account.
1. Change the password on the account immediately.
2. Contact the IT Service Desk. The Service Desk will be able to verify malicious activity and place restrictions on other systems if needed.
3. Setup Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on the account. NOTE: if there is evidence of ongoing malicious activity, MFA will be automatically turned on and made mandatory.
4. Inform proper departments (faculty or advisors as applicable).
Actions to take for Identity Theft
Evidence of Identity Theft includes changes to demographic information in systems, unfamiliar charges on credit or bank statements, and unexpected new accounts or bills.
1. File a police report with local department. If you do not know where the theft occurred, and it could be in multiple jurisdictions, call each one and report the incident.
2. Obtain a copy of the police report
3. File an identity theft report with the FTC
4. Contact the 3 main credit reporting agencies and put a fraud alert on their accounts
5. Notify credit card companies if applicable
6. Review credit report for any activity that is not theirs and issue a dispute
7. Complete an IRS Identity Theft Affidavit
8. Notify your financial institutions
9. Change passwords to other accounts
10. Replace stolen identification cards
11. Contact your utility companies
